CoolAdvantage VS SculpSure

CoolAdvantage VS SculpSure – Which treatment is better for body contouring?

Weight loss and fat removal has been very tricky as everyone’s relationship with fats is different. Some may find it difficult even with consistent exercise and strict diet control as metabolism decreases with age. Liposuction may a quick fix to magically reduce body fats but invasive means often come along with high risks.

To stay at the forefront of the latest aesthetic medicine technology, The Chelsea Clinic will always offer our patients new treatment or service hence the non-invasive option of CoolAdvantage or SculpSure.

We understand that CoolAdvantage has made its mark in the local market and there has been a lot of curiosity surrounding SculpSure after we debuted this treatment in 2017 at The Chelsea Clinic. Do not fret! We’re here to answer your questions.

CoolAdvantage* typically uses cryolipolysis to kill fats. The technique involves controlled cooling to freeze and crystalize fat cells without any damage to the surroundings skin.

What happens during a treatment?

A specific treatment area is marked out and secured under an applicator. Upon treatment, the skin and fat underneath are sucked up to cold plates which apply controlled, cold temperatures. Each individual area refers to one cycle.

After 35 minutes, the applicator is removed and the body works towards removing the destroyed fat cells. The treated area is then massaged for 2 minutes to improve the treatments results. Although the fats and skin then return to their original positions, the nerves might be affected and cause slight numbness. Like the mild hardening of the skin, this is only temporary and will dissipate in time.

*Note: Also know as CoolSculpting, CoolAdvantage uses a shorter treatment time of 35 minutes, as compared to Coolsculpting’s 60 minutes treatment due to new advanced technology.  CoolAdvantage also offers new, interchangeable applicators for ease of use.

SculpSure, on the other hand, uses a different technology. SculpSure uses warm lasers that ruptures fat cells when in direct contact.

What happens during a treatment?

Each machine comes with four applicators, roughly the size of a cell phone. In 25 minutes, SculpSure’s lasers heat and damage the fats, causing some of hot and achy discomfort, unlike CoolAdvantage’s cold and achy. There is an additional cooling element in between heat pulses for better comfort. Once irreversible damage is done, the fat cells are swept away by the body’s lymphatic system.

With similar end goals and the ability to treat all the areas where stubborn fat is prevalent, there is no telling which is superior to the other but each treatment offers some differences in techniques and pain level.

When evaluating your options, these are the important questions to ask yourself.

  1. What is your threshold for pain?

SculpSure can reach 107 degrees when heating fat cells. Even though it has a cool cycle built in for safety purposes so one shouldn’t have to worry about burns, the high temperature can be uncomfortable for patients with higher pain sensitivity or sensitive skin. In CoolAdvantage, the treatment is made more bearable because of the numbing effect brought on by the cooling action

2 . How much fats are you hoping to remove?

The Chelsea Clinic normally recommends CoolAdvantage to patients with higher volume of fats to remove as CoolAdvantage latches on to a solid chunk of fats. However, if you are just looking to remove excess, stubborn fats that your regular exercises have not been able to help in, then SculpSure will be suitable.

We would urge our patients do their due research, reflect on their individual goals and expectations before making an appointment to get a doctor’s opinion.
