Liquid Facelift

At some point in life, you may notice that your complexion starts to get heavy, facial lines deepen and the crevices under your eyes hollows.  This is just part and parcel of the dreaded ageing process. Ageing results in gradual loss of bones, fat, collagen and hydration. This can lead to the loss in support in the midface area and overall facial disproportion.

An attractive facial shape is a key consideration to facial beauty. For Asian patients, an oval-shaped face is considered to be the desirable. Other characteristics of an attractive face include clear, youthful and fair skin, volumized frontal area of midface/forehead, narrowed lower face with a lengthened facial height and a smooth V-shaped face.

If you feel an overwhelming urge to counter the first tell-tale signs of ageing or are looking to achieve a more harmonious facial outlook, injectables may be a solution to stopping genetics from catching up. Commonly coined as the term liquid facelift, injectables can be used to restore volume. Fillers made of hyaluronic acid, fill up the space in the layers of the skin nicely. As a result this plumps the skin up, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and facial sags.

Perks of Liquid Facelift

  • Improvement in skin smooth texture
  • Quick, lunchtime procedure
  • Pocket-friendly as compared to surgical facelift
  • Minimally-invasive procedure
  • Minimal recovery
  • Results are instantly noticeable
  • Typically side effect-free

A local anaesthesia is used numb the area that will be injected before injecting fillers for the patient’s comfort. Each Liquid Facelift session takes between 15 to 45 minutes to complete. The results of liquid facelifts are subtle and natural, as compared to the drastic improvement of a surgical facelift. The best candidates are patients in their 30s with minimal volume loss or 40s before they start to develop heavy, deeply-set wrinkles and pronounce jowls. The more aged the face, the less effective liquid facelift is.

Areas that Liquid Facelift can improve:

  1. Around the brows
  2. Temples
  3. Under-eye
  4. Cheeks
  5. Folds between nose and mouth, and chin and mouth (Nasiolabial & marionette lines)
  6. Jowls

It is important to note that a liquid facelift usually last between 12-24 months based on the type of fillers used. Some of the risks and potential side effects are not limited to temporary bruising and minor pain within the injected area. In the rare case necrosis (death of a tissue) may happen when fillers are mistakenly injected into an artery, cutting off the oxygen flow . Hence it is advisable to look for a qualified medical profession with experienced skillset in injectables.

Liquid Facelift After- care

You can start to ice your face once you reach home. Do avoid touching or scratching the injection points to prevent skin infection or wounds from forming. Strenuous exercise must also be avoided for the day. Fillers will take a few days to be fully set in place. During that period, try not to sleep on your face. Alcohol, Panadol or anti-inflammatory drugs (that can induce more bruising) should also be avoided for at least 48 hours.
